    General coaching reviews

What riders say about Dan’s coaching.

Published feedback on Dan’s general coaching—not testimonials for this audio course.

Dan is a great coach who offers simple yet effective methods of training the horse and rider. I have found him especially helpful with young green horses. He is good at focusing the rider on the important principles of training. This has allowed me to keep calm under pressure.

    Tiffany

I have had lessons with Dan for a number of years and strongly recommend him. He does well with a range of horses and riders and really works hard on all combinations of horse and rider. He helped me with a horse with previous injuries and we improved substantially achieving very increased BD scores and he gave me the confidence to work through problems systematically. I thoroughly recommend him.

    Judy Rorison

Dan's tuition and detailed training has helped me improve my riding way more than I expected. He provides real encouragement and tailored individual coaching that allows both horse and rider to develop their potential.

    Schooling without the guesswork

When you’re on your own, a clear next step helps.

It can be hard to decide what to work on, how to begin, or what your horse’s response means. These lessons give you calm, practical guidance for choosing an exercise and paying attention to what happens.

    01

    Choose a focus

Start with a practical idea instead of spending the ride wondering what to do.

    02

    Try it in steps

Dan talks you through manageable exercises while you school your own horse.

    03

    Notice the response

Give yourself a way to pay attention to rhythm, balance, straightness and connection.

    A practical course sequence

    Seven lessons. Five foundations.

Six mounted ride-alongs and one unmounted lecture, each 30–40 minutes. The listed lessons bring practical schooling ideas together with optional test-riding context.

    The foundations underneath the exercises

These five ideas connect the mounted lessons and help you decide what to notice as you ride.

    Transitions

Prepare changes of pace and notice the balance around them.

    Straightness

Find steadier lines and stay between your aids.

    Suppleness

Use simple shapes to explore bend and evenness.

    Balance

Work with rhythm and thoughtful changes.

    Connection

Notice the conversation between your aids and your horse.

    The lesson sequence

The course moves from lines and shapes into transitions and walk, then adds test-reading and warm-up context.

    1. 01

      Find straighter lines

      Mounted Ride-Along30–40 min

Practise riding lines, corners and diagonals with a clearer sense of where to place your horse and how to stay balanced together.

      Focus: Straightness · Balance

    2. 02

      Make the circle useful

      Mounted Ride-Along30–40 min

Use the 20-metre circle to explore an even bend, steady rhythm and a more consistent connection through the turn.

Focus: Suppleness · Balance · Connection

    3. 03

      Ride a square with purpose

      Mounted Ride-Along30–40 min

A simple square helps you prepare each corner, organise the turn and notice how straightness and suppleness work together.

      Focus: Straightness · Suppleness

    4. 04

      Make transitions clearer

      Mounted Ride-Along30–40 min

Build more thoughtful changes of pace by preparing your horse and paying attention to balance before and after each transition.

      Focus: Transitions · Balance

    5. 05

      Give the walk your attention

      Mounted Ride-Along30–40 min

Take time to notice rhythm, relaxation and the contact in walk, and practise encouraging a more settled, purposeful step.

      Focus: Connection · Suppleness

    6. 06

      Understand what a test asks

      Unmounted Lecture30–40 min

An unmounted lecture offering extra context on reading a dressage test and understanding how movements are viewed. Useful background for test riders, but not required for everyday schooling.

Extra competition context: understand a dressage test. This is an unmounted lecture, not a riding exercise.

    7. 07

      Prepare for a test warm-up

      Mounted Ride-Along30–40 min

A mounted warm-up with ideas around bend, balance and relaxation. It is optional competition context, and the schooling principles can still inform your ordinary work.

      Focus: Balance · Suppleness

Optional competition context: a test warm-up; not required for everyday schooling.

    What the course focuses on

Useful schooling is often about a clear, manageable focus. The mounted work offers practical exercises around transitions, straightness, suppleness, balance and connection, with room to observe your horse’s response.

    What this course is—and isn’t

It is structured audio support for your own schooling: a practical exercise, guidance to follow, and prompts for what to notice.

It does not promise a particular transformation or timetable, diagnose your horse, or replace individual in-person coaching. Dan cannot see or assess your ride through these recordings.

Make the audio work for your schooling

    How to use the lessons

Choose a safe setup, use the guidance that suits the horse and day in front of you, and pause whenever you need your full attention.

How and where to use the lessons

    1. 1

      Choose a familiar, suitable place

Use an area and exercise that fit your experience, your horse’s training and the conditions that day.

    2. 2

      Keep your surroundings in view

Listen only with a setup and volume that let you stay aware. Do not use headphones if they make riding unsafe, and never follow audio in traffic or on public roads.

    3. 3

The lecture is for off-horse listening

Lesson six is an unmounted test-reading lecture. Lesson seven’s warm-up is optional competition context, not a requirement for ordinary schooling.

    Your coach

    Dan Bizzarro

I’m Dan Bizzarro, an international event rider and coach with more than 20 years of riding, training and coaching experience. I’ve represented Italy in Nations Cup competitions, but my approach is just as relevant to your everyday schooling. My coaching is calm, clear and practical: I explain what to do, why it matters and what to notice in your horse’s response. My message is simple—clear aids, balance, straightness and a soft, consistent contact make riding easier to understand. These audio lessons help you work on those foundations with guidance you can follow while you ride.

Is this right for you and your horse?

    This may suit you if…

    • You sometimes school alone and would value a clear idea to follow.
    • You’re unsure which exercise to choose or what to pay attention to.
    • You want calm, practical suggestions for everyday schooling.
    • You’re comfortable deciding whether an exercise suits your horse and circumstances.

It is not a substitute for…

    • Immediate supervision or hands-on help from someone on the ground.
    • An instructor who can see your situation and tailor guidance to you both.
    • Veterinary or other professional advice when a horse’s health or soundness is a concern.

If you’re unsure about an exercise, don’t attempt it. Ask a qualified instructor who knows you and your horse.

Support for your decisions, with simple exercises to try and responses to notice.
